In Tengah, over 8,800 BTO flats have been completed, and people are moving into their new homes in the Garden district
Over 8,800 Housing Board flats in Tengah are completed, which is nearly 40 per cent of the 23,000 flats available up to now in the newly-built town.
Garden Garden, which is the second of the five Tengah housing districts being constructed has also seen residents moving into their new residences. Plantation is the first of five housing districts that will be constructed in Tengah.
The keys to the 2,936 units of Garden the Garden, which represents 90 percent of the 3,306 booked units were collected.
As of November 15 7,921 households had gotten the keys to their flats in eight Build-to-Order (BTO) projects within the Plantation and Garden district.
The first batch of Tengah residents received keys to their homes in the Plantation district at the end of August 2023.
Billed as an eco-friendly and car-lite “forest” town the 700ha region in the west region is the first HDB town that has been built since Punggol more than two decades ago.
Tengah is divided into five districts, and will be able to provide around 42,000 homes once completed.
Tengah’s Garden district will provide 6,500 new houses when it is complete. The area of 80ha encompasses a total of hectares.
Part of a 900m-long green connector known as Garden Farmway, which links residents to recreation facilities such as playgrounds, allotment gardens and fitness centers, was inaugurated in November.
HDB’s update on town stated that another stretch will be completed by the beginning of the quarter of 2025.
Garden Vines @ Tengah project is set to begin its first quarter of operation in 2025. It will include an eatery and a supermarket for residents in the Garden district. A bakery as well as dental and medical clinics will be provided.
The Plantation Farmway will be finished within the Plantation District adjacent to the town by 2024. It will connect four BTO projects to the initial neighbourhood centre.
Then the time, a community center will be in place.
HDB said 40 shops and eateries have been opened in the Plantation Plaza neighbourhood centre, including a restaurant called Swensen’s and hardware shop DIY Hub and Teo Heng Family KTV Studio.
A Giant supermarket along with a Koufu Foodcourt as well as a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant were the first businesses to open there in June.
Two pre-schools, located within the Plantation Grange and Plantation Acres BTO projects began in August and September. Two other pre-schools in the Plantation district will open in 2025.
HDB has stated that it will collaborate in conjunction with the Early Childhood Development Agency in the process of opening pre-schools gradually in each BTO project within the Garden district.
Residents are currently served by four bus services. The City Direct bus service 674 began operations on Nov 25 and takes Tengah residents to the Central Business District. Three other bus services namely 870, 871 and 992 – will take residents to Bukit Batok and Jurong East.
As Tengah town develops with more amenities and infrastructure in and surrounding Tengah will be built to provide services to residents and offer the same accessibility as current HDB towns.
